About this site
The Bearing started as a simple experiment: take the potential of AI and turn it into something genuinely useful.
For business leaders, policy experts, and even billionaires, AI is often described as the biggest, most consequential business transformation opportunity imaginable. But nobody seems entirely clear on which part of the business it's actually going to transform.
AI is a solution looking for a problem.
The Bearing was created to test that directly: can AI replicate a full journalistic workflow — lead generation, research, drafting, editing, oversight, image generation, checking, and publishing? This website is the answer to that question.
Here's the part most publications won't say out loud: journalists already use AI to research, draft, and edit — not some of them, most of them, and probably almost all of them. Nobody puts that on their masthead.
Except The Bearing, which is at least being honest about it.
But AI writing isn't just a time-saver for busy or lazy journalists. It brings a set of strengths that are genuinely difficult to replicate in a human writer. In today's media landscape, most political and economic commentary asks you to accept a conclusion before it shows you the reasoning.
The advantage of AI is that it has no preconceived conclusion to defend. The Bearing's editorial lens is built to look at what a policy actually does, not just what it claims to do, and to follow the evidence wherever it leads — even when that doesn't confirm what you expected to hear.
You can read exactly how it works on the How The Bearing Is Made page.
